Broncos sink Raiders with Kahu one-pointer

The Broncos have come away with a close victory against in a teeth clenching 13-12 victory against a scrappy Raiders outfit at Suncorp Stadium tonight in front of just under 30,000 fans.

Jordan Kahu was the knight in shining armour to save the day, kicking an outstanding field goal late in the game to set in stone the victory for the home side.

200-gamer Andrew McCullough went over for the Broncos' first and the first try of the match in the early minutes of the second half, as well as making 60 tackles. But that wasnt where it ended - the Raiders came up with a late comeback to level out the scores to 12-apiece within the last ten minutes, until the late field goal from Kahu.

The first half was a dead and empty tryless half with only two points to each team being scored through penalty goals, some brilliant try savers coming form Jarrod Croker and Nick Cortic stopping a certain try off a Matt Gillett pass to that man Kahu.

And the second half started well for the Broncos wehn McCullough went in to score within the first five minutes and Kahu converting it.

Darius Boyd showed his wares in the 51st minute - dummy, dummy, break and score to put the Raiders defence to shame. This time Kahu missed the conversion leaving the score 12-2 in favour of the Broncos.

But the Raiders weren't just going to give up, Jordan Rapana went in the corner acrobatically, scoring as he usually does on the right side and the visitors finally putting some try scoring points on the board. An unsuccessful conversion attempt by Croker made the scores 6-12 and there was only a converted try in the game.

Within minutes his try scoring efforts were long forgotten as he dropped the ball off the kickoff, giving the Broncos some field position in the Raiders' twenty. With the away side under pressure, the Broncos failed to score in the two sets they received, one being a repeat set after the ball being touched by Jarrod Croker.

With ten remaining, the Raiders needed to start using their skill, and in the 72nd minute Blake Austin ran downfield, passed to Jack Wighton and he handed it back to Austin to put him under the posts, and with Croker converting it made scores level once again at 12-apiece.

It wasn't until five minutes to go when Kahu drop-punted the ball from the 30 out to send the Broncos out with a bang and the match-winning field goal.

The win puts the Broncos on a 2-2 win loss record going into next Thursday's away clash with Canterbury, while the Raiders are now just one win from four games heading into a home game against Parramatta on Saturday week.
