Round 8 - Accor Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park / Wanngal - Crowd: 11123

Match Overview

A relatively free-flowing and open game, slightly marred by handling errors, produce a gripping contest won eventually by the Broncos, 24-20 over the Rabbitohs after an impressive second half performance.

Souths got the first points on the board when Jack Bird made a meal of Adam Reynolds' wobbly grubber, losing the ball backwards in hios own in-goal. Walker followed through and planted the loose ball casually. Reynolds converted.

In the fifteenth minute the Broncos turned on some razzle dazzle, in particular Corey Oates, who handled the ball several times before grubbering into the Souths in-goal and Darius Boyd swooped in like a thief in the night to score a try. Isaako converted to level the scores.

It was six minutes later that the Bunnies hit back, this time thanks to a lovely draw and pass by Inglis who sent Johnston over an easy four pointer. Reynolds slotted the sideline conversion.

The final ten minutes of the half saw the standard of play drop off as poor last tackle options, poor ball handling and poor disciple all crept into the game. Souths lead by six at the break.

The second half started with Broncos dominating possession and field position, eventually culminating in a good solo try by Nikorima, who skipped out a tackle after running at the gap between two lazy defenders to score on the right side. Isaako converted to level the scores.

Five minutes later, Souths got a penalty and decided to kick the two pointer to regain a slender 2 point lead. Their lead was short lived though as Oates put in a strong run before sliding over the line for a well deserved try. Isaako nailed his conversion sideline conversion.

In the 65th minute, Milford put in the most casual grubber seen which Roberts pounced on for a try to extend the Broncos lead. Isaako added another goal.

With just 5 minutes left in the game, the Bunnies began their fightback, thanks to a Sutton try off a short, flat, fast pass from Reynolds to a barnstorming Sutton. Reynolds converted.

Despite a few positive looking attacking raids, the Bunnies were unable to cross again and the Broncos hang on to score a solid victory.

Next round the Rabbitohs are off to Newcastle while Brisbane have four straight games at Suncorp, starting with a home clash against Canterbury.

3. Corey Oates

The big winker had a very strong game, making line breaks and set up one try and scored another.

2. Tevita Pangai Junior

The big forward was a handful yet again all game.

1. Damien Cook

Cook's dummy half running was again crisp and catching defences napping and getting his forwards moving exactly when they needed it.
